And it's on

Mired in comprehensive exams for the next two weeks, I probably won't get to watch hardly a minute of Mavericks-Spurs. But I would like to go on record here with this (not too risky) prediction: Dirk and Terry will probably do fine, but whether the Mavericks win the series will depend on whether Josh Howard plays like an all-star or a head case.

I am deeply offended that you did not mention that your incredibly dedicated fiance has put all of the Maverick-Spurs games on her Google calendar so she can watch them with the same relish that you would watch them. I attribute their first-playoff success to my dedication.

Also, let's hope that Dirk plays like an all-star in the next games, and not a head case.

Good luck on your exams. Mine last Oct. were quite tense, but I did pass. Now Cat and I are moving to Scotland (for a ministry gig of hers) where I can write my dissertation. We're flying out on May 1st, so I'll miss the NBA finals for the third year in a row (with more surely to come). Sorry to highjack (sp?) your post, but thought I'd take this opportunity to spill some beans. Go Mavs.

I approve of Scotland -- sounds like fun. I also approve of passing comps despite some tense moments. Now I just need Dallas to make it out of the first round (past May 6) so I can watch at least a couple of games.

And the word from Rick Carlisle after the first-round win:

"I think [Howard] probably is our MVP of the series," Carlisle said. "He played great. He was there for us -- a lot of big plays that didn't necessarily lead to scores."

Scott,

Looks like you are able to watch just in time to see them start to lose.

Yeah, I had a feeling that would happen. Things would be a lot more pleasant right now if Detroit hadn't been dumb enough to give up Billups. Though maybe we wouldn't have drawn the Spurs in the first round then...

Whew! Well, at least they've not been swept. By the way, oh thou expert on Mavs history, when was the last time the Mavs were swept in a series? And how many times have they been?

I saw on ESPN.com that they have never been swept in a 7 game series.
